Welcome Back!

Welcome back to school! I hope everyone had restful holidays and that we're all ready to jump right back in.
In language arts, we will be reading a Reader's Theater version of Oedipus Rex. This follows our mini-plays, where Katrina's class performed The Illiad, Linda's class performed The Odyssey and Emilie's class performed The Aenied.

This week, we are looking at Greek and Latin root words and are creating our own. It's a lot of fun!

Following our study of Greek theater, we will all ready Tiger, Tiger by Lynn Reid Banks.

A reminder that there is NO small writing due this week, but we'll be back on track next week.

*As an effort to increase traffic here on the blog, I'm going to start posting occasional questions. Post your answer and before I post the next blog, I'll choose a winner at random. Here's today's question:
What book(s) have you enjoyed that have been made into movies? Do you like the book or the movie more? Why?

The first three students to comment on this blog get a coupon for a free scoop of ice cream at Pop's!

Thanksgiving Luncheon!

Just a reminder to everyone that our annual Thanksgiving Luncheon is coming up on Wednesday, November 25th. The Student Art Show will be up in the Ballator Gallery, on the second floor of the Moody Center and opens at 11:00am. The potluck luncheon will begin at noon, in the cafeteria, first floor of Moody Center. All Middle School families are asked to bring an entree and a side dish that can feed 10-12 people. Also, please bring two nonperishable food items for our donation to the Salvation Army food drive. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with our whole community and I look forward to seeing you all there!

POP and CS students volunteer at Pumpkin Fest!

A group of students from our middle school volunteered to run the kids' games at CHIP's fundraiser, Pumpkin Fest, at the Salem Farmer's Market on Halloween. It was a busy day, but everyone maintained such positive attitudes and the kids all had a great time. Thanks to all of our student volunteers (a few of you aren't pictured, but your help was also appreciated!) and to the parents who helped make it possible!
